Questions I’m often asked

Q: What’s your background in photography?
I’ve been telling visual stories for a looong time. My degree is in filmmaking and I’ve shot film, video, and stills for a host of broadcast, commercial, and documentary projects. Over ten years ago I dedicated myself to photographing weddings and since then I’m humbled by some of the honors I’ve received.  I’ve had wedding albums awarded the Court of Honor for highest scoring wedding album by the Professional Photographers of Massachusetts competition. I’m apparently an international award winning photographer who’s photographs are recognized by the Wedding Photojournalist Association, the International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers, and Fearless Photographers. My photographs have also been published on several wedding blogs and in magazines such as The Knot, City Living and Skin&Ink Magazine (yes, Skin&Ink Magazine!)

Q: What camera do you use? Do you bring backup equipment?
My equipment consists of mix of the latest professional-grade cameras and lenses, as well as bewildering variety of lighting and support gear. I may not use every piece of gear I bring to every wedding, but I enjoy the security of knowing that my gear will never limit my ability to take an amazing photo, no matter what environment I find myself in.

Q: Are you the photographer who would shoot our wedding? Do you use assistants or second photographers?
My name’s on the website and I’ll be the person photographing your wedding. I usually fly solo, but if for logistical reasons it makes sense to bring an assistant, that person will just be there to park my car and set up gear. (They won’t cost you more than the price of another vendor meal.) I also give you the option of having a kick-ass second photographer at your wedding.

Q: Do we get the photos on disc?
Yes! Along with your finished album, you receive a disc of your images and a release that allows you to make as many prints or enlargements as you want. If you don’t do an album you receive the disc after your gallery goes online.

Q: How long does it take for us to see our photos?
After the wedding I winnow your images down by tossing out all the blinks and misfires. Each of the keepers are individually hand tuned for color, contact and clarity, then put online for you to view. Depending on the season it may take 4-6 weeks for your photos to be available online. Your wedding gallery remains online for 3 months while you select the photos for your album.

Q: How long will you be at our wedding?
I generally begin photographing about an hour before the bride shimmies into her gown, and I’ll be there until all the important elements of the wedding day are covered and the dancing is in full swing– about halfway throughout the reception.

Q: Will you travel to our wedding in ________________?
Yes! I’m based just outside of Boston and I regularly shoot all over New England. Far flung events may require an overnight stay and if I have to get on a plane, train or boat to shoot your wedding there may be additional costs involved.

Q: I see a lot of black and white photos on your site, how do you decide whether to make my pictures black and white or color?
You receive all of your photos in full color. In addition, you may also receive a selection of my favorite images from your wedding which have artistically processed in color or black and white. Wait, that didn’t actually answer your question! I find that honest emotional moments are often more powerful without the distraction of color.

Q: Do you shoot formals?
Absolutely! Couples often thank me for making that part of their day both quick and painless.

Q: How will you be dressed at our wedding?
When I show up I’m the consummate professional. I’ll be neatly dressed in a manner that allows me to be active and agile but doesn’t call attention to myself. I’m not the show, you are.

Q: Should we give you a list of photos to take?
You should definitely let me know what elements of your day are most important to you, in fact I’ll be asking you about them once we get closer to the wedding. But you don’t need to give me a long list of specific shots. Seriously, your photographer shouldn’t be adding to your wedding to-do list!

Q: Do you shoot details?
Yes! While I’m always on the lookout for great moments between people, I also happen to shoot magazine quality details like a boss.

Q: Can you hold our date for us?
I wish I could, but to make things fair for every couple, it’s first come, first served. Snooze, you lose. Etc. But seriously, if you’re getting married on a popular day and you know I’m the perfect fit for your wedding, don’t wait. (That actually goes for any vendor you find who’s a perfect fit for your wedding!)

Q: How do we go about booking you?
Well, the first step is to fill out my contact form and tell me a little about youself and your wedding. If I’m available on your date I’ll send you an email outlining everything you’ll need to know about becoming a client. We also might set up a time to talk on the phone or get together. If you think I’m a good fit, I’ll send you an online proposal. To book me you simply agree to the online proposal, choose a package and pay a 50% retainer to reserve my services for your wedding. (Visa, MasterCard, American Express all accepted.) The balance will be due 30 days before the wedding.
